For almost as many years, in workshops, consultations, friendly conversations, and writing, I have been encouraging, teaching, or leading people to meditate and create quiet times. During this time, the world has changed considerably, and so have I. My most important learning is: Certainly there are commonalities in meditating, but each individual is unique. I consider that meditation is one of the most empowering practices that anyone can engage in. A “quiet revolution” is an oxymoron, of course. Meditation is generally a private, quiet practice. In North America its acceptance has changed dramatically over the last several years, although it is still not universally accepted.

A simple kiss can be fun and innocent while letting your crush know just how much he means to you. And kissing is a powerful way to enjoy an intimate moment—but only if you make it a point not to go further. So grab your guy and experiment with these smooches. It makes finally having a real make-out session more exciting! Start with two or three lingering pecks on the lips, then lightly suck in his bottom lip. Let it go and do the same with his top lip. Then go back to the lingering pecks and pull away before it becomes an open-mouth kiss.

Meditation Wikipedia Meditation as a form of alternative medicine brings about mental calmness and physical relaxation by suspending the stream of thoughts that normally occupy the mind. Generally performed once or twice a day for approximately 20 minutes at a time, meditation is used to reduce stress, alter hormone levels, and elevate one’s mood.
This type of meditation is a special form of meditation in which all religious or mystical aspects have been removed. It is purely a type of mental exercise designed to improve overall health by reducing the global effects of chronic stress. Meditation generally involves avoiding though not forcefully wandering thoughts and fantasies, and calming and focusing the mind. A range of strategies exist for focusing one’s attention.
It need not be effortful, and can be experienced as just happening. Physical postures include sitting cross-legged, standing, lying down, and walking sometimes along designated floor patterns. Health applications of meditation Meditation has entered the mainstream of health care as a method of stress and pain reduction. For example, in an early study in transcendental meditation was shown to effect the human metabolism by lowering the biochemical byproducts of stress, such as lactate lactic acid , and by decreasing heart rate and blood pressure and inducing favorable brain waves.
As a method of stress reduction, meditation is often used in hospitals in cases of chronic or terminal illness to reduce complications associated with increased stress including a depressed immune system.
Share shares A team led by Brown University found people could suffer ill effects from doing just half an hour of meditation or after only one day. They interviewed 60 people who have done meditation and 32 teachers, discovering the most common side effect to be fear, anxiety, panic or paranoia. This was experienced by 82 per cent of those questioned, while 42 per cent suffered hallucinations, visions or illusions and 28 per cent said they had become hypersensitive to light and sound.
Each of those interviewed said they were sure their experiences had been triggered by meditation, with people ruled out who had previous psychological problems or medical conditions.
Comment From the outside, meditation seems like the simplest of tasks: Even the most eager yogi can sit, take a deep breath, find themselves relaxing and congratulate themselves on how well meditation is going. With the surge in interest in Eastern philosophy and meditation in the West beginning in the s, music was often used to transport its audience into heightened states of awareness.
Jazz musicians like John and Alice Coltrane sought to infuse Eastern sensibilities to Western music to achieve a universal sound, which often included sitar and tambura in a jazz setting. Musicians like Tony Scott and Paul Horn began to travel with their horns through the East, bringing such sensibilities back with them. And so, here are a few albums to cue up and enliven your next meditation attempt. Some are serene, some hushed, some with washes of noise and drone at their root.
Some come from 40 years ago, some from the new century. Pay attention or tune them out as you will. Set them at the lowest volume on your Sonos or crank them up in your earbuds.

Dating can be exciting, exhilarating, and, naturally, nerve-wracking! While there are many things you can do to relieve stress, one aspect that you may not have considered is how creating a mindset of mindfulness may help to navigate the difficulties that all of us inevitably encounter along the way.
And, as I already mentioned, alpha is often associated with what is known as superlearning—the ability to learn, process, store and… …recall large amounts of information quickly and efficiently. Slower still are theta waves. Theta is best known as the brain wave state of dreaming sleep, but it is also associated with a number of other beneficial states, including increased creativity, some kinds of superlearning, increased memory abilities, visionary experiences, and what are called integrative experiences where we make broadly-based positive changes in the way we see ourselves, others, or certain life situations.
You can probably see why gaining the ability and flexibility to access this state might increase your effectiveness! And best of all, theta is also a state of tremendous stress relief. In the slower theta brain wave pattern, the brain makes lots of relaxing endorphins that really do—as you will see or rather, feel when you try it for yourself… …melt your stress away!
The slowest brain wave pattern is delta, the brain wave pattern of dreamless sleep. In certain delta frequencies the brain releases many highly beneficial substances, including human growth hormone, which we ordinarily make in decreasing quantities as we get older—resulting in many aging symptoms including loss of muscle tone, increased weight gain, loss of stamina, and many diseases associated with aging.
The positive evidence is overwhelming. These brain wave patterns of meditation dramatically improve your health, slow aging, powerfully reduce stress levels, create more happiness and inner peace…and a lot more. Unfortunately, traditional meditation is difficult for most people to learn. Many find it difficult to stick with a meditation practice. And, the results happen so slowly that most people quit before they experience them.

Nazism reached its end in a Berlin turned into a battleground of unparalleled violence, fire and brutality as the Soviet forces dealt blows of destruc-tion and revenge. It was as if the Satanic essence of Nazism shone through the flames and the ruins.
Place one hand on your belly and one hand on your chest. Begin to feel the chest rise and fall. Begin to feel the belly rise and fall. Continue with your natural breath, feeling the air enter through your nostrils, then exit through your nostrils. Continue to feel your breath. On the next inhale, feel the belly rise, then the ribs expand and finally the chest lift, coming to the top of the breath below the throat.
On the exhale, the breath leaves the chest, ribs fall, belly contracts. Continue with this breath feeling all three parts of the breath and think to yourself, belly, ribs, chest Repeat this breath three more times. With the third exhale, begin to feel the breath as a wave coming up from the belly and rising to the top of the breath beneath the throat. Hold this breath for two counts, then let the breath go in a wave from the chest out the belly.
Continue with this wave-like breath, rolling in and up, then counting to two, and rolling out like a tide. Feel the fluidity of the breath. Feel the complete cycle of the breath.
